our story

Honoring Traditon, Shaping the Future.

The Way of Apis Cerana

We take our inspiration and our name from Apis cerana, the Eastern honey bee. Known in Korean as Tojongbeol, these clever creatures differ fundamentally from other bee species. While most bees collect pollen from only a single plant, Apis cerana gathers nectar from a wide variety of sources. They meticulously create layer upon layer of honey, each one imbued with a flavor as unique as the flower it came from.

At Apis Cerana, we follow the innate wisdom. We layer diverse traditional techniques and materials from various histories, with a special focus on Korean traditions: Ottchil, embroidery, quilting, Wangul (reed) weaving, wood carving, and more, to create one-of-a-kind creations. Each piece tells a story of collaboration between time-honored artistry and modern design, balancing practicality with beauty.

Our process is deeply hands-on: from first sketch to final detail, we work closely with master artisans, whose expertise and vision shape every design. The result is not just a product, but a living expression of craft, history, and creativity reimagined for today.

Through this work, we aim to celebrate and sustain diverse cultural traditions, breathing new life into heritage techniques while offering our customers practical beauty for their daily lives. The Apis Cerana Way is a continuous journey. With every creation, we strive to nurture a community of makers and preserve the artistry of the past for the next generation, inviting you to share in the enduring richness of our heritage.
